Wine in the City: Wine Love Ladies x Sotheby’s Wine

I met many great ladies wine lovers since I launched this blog and I wanted to start offering them exclusive, by invitation only events.

That’s why I launched the  concept “Wine in the City”, a reference of the movie “Sex in the City”, which promotes ladies friendship.

The idea is very simple: gather ladies who love wine wine and discover a selection of great wines.

The first event was organised in collaboration with Sotheby’s Wine at their fantastic Upper East Side boutique.

Ladies Julie Pierre Antoine Bollet

All the ladies were New Yorkers, wine lovers, and impatient to discover the theme of the evening which was “the hidden gems at Sotheby’s wine”.

A boutique for wine enthusiats

Sotheby’s Wine is the paradise for wine lovers and the boutique offers a selection of the world’s best wines, nothing less.

So you’ll find a selection of the best and most exclusive wines in the world, and this is a great place to buy some of the best vintages of Petrus, Chateau Latour, Lafite Rothschild, or Opus One.

Sotheby's Wine Boutique

However, best wines doesn’t mean most expensive wines, and Sotheby’s Wine as a bigger ambition: propose the best producers and the best appellations, some of them very confidential, from all over the world with a price range staring at $15.

And this is what I really love with Sotheby’s Wine, a curated selection of outstanding, yet affordable wines.

So don’t be intimidated by this elegant and luxurious boutique and let the team of wine lovers advise you, they will help you find a great bottle within your budget, as you will see with the selection that follows.

Sotheby's Wine

Needless to say I was already a customer before to organize an event with Sotheby’s Wine. So I was happy to have my ladies discover the boutique and some of its gems.

This unique event took place in the private VIP lounge area, giving us the intimate feeling we were hosted by friends sharing with us a couple of nice bottles.

Our host for the evening

Pierre-Antoine, Sales Director at Sotheby’s Wine, was our dedicated host for the night.

The only guideline I gave him for this event was: let’s surprise our ladies tonight!

Pierre Antoine Michel Nielelon Bourgogne Blanc 2014

I have to say that Pierre-Antoine lives for wine. Born in Burgundy, he is a wine connoisseur and can speak about each wine for hours!

Our ladies guests loved him and spent the night asking more and more questions about Sotheby’s Wine and the wines.

Champagne R&L Legras Blanc de Blancs

We started the wine tasting with Champagne as an aperitif.

Champagne R&L Legras Blanc de Blancs is the house champagne of Sotheby’s Wine. This small winery makes great champagnes and produces the house champagne of some of the most prestigious restaurants, such as la Tour d’Argent in Paris, an historic Michelin-starred restaurant famous for its pressed duck, its impressive wine cellar (over 450,000 bottles worth $30 million), its four-hundred page wine list. and its amazing view on Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Sotheby’s Champagne was already among my favorite Champagnes and it has already been featured in this post.

It’s the perfect wine to start an evening, the price is very competitive and it reminds me another champagne that I love, Blanc de Blancs by Ruinart.

Marsannay Rosé Audoin Charles 2017

As expected, Pierre-Antoine surprised us with the next wine, a Marsannay Rosé 2017 from Pierre Audouin.

Marsannay is mostly renowned for its Pinot Noir reds and Chardonnays whites, but the appelation also produces great rosés.

From Burgundy and made from Pinot Noir, this Marsannay was an elegant and quaffable rosé. More fruity than the dry rosés from Cotes de Provence, with a nice rubis color.

Not your ordinary rosé and a great discovery for our ladies, proving that one of the greatest wine regions in the world can also produce wonderful rosés.

Bourgogne Blanc Michel Niellon 2014

We moved on to a Bourgogne Blanc 2014 from Michel Niellon.

Domaine Niellon is a reputed producer of Chassagne-Montrachet but they also produce a fantastic Bourgogne Blanc.

If you like Chardonnays from Burgundy, full-bodied and mineral, this Bourgogne Blanc is for you.

This wine would be perfect with fish and seafood, or with cheese.

Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

For the “Grand Finale”, Pierre-Antoine proposed us a Pichon Lalande 2008, a Seccond Growth Pauillac.

Pichon Longueville has a higher proportion of Merlot than most Pauillac, resulting in an elegant and feminine wine with very smooth and silky tannins.

Pichon Longueville 2008 Comtesse de Lalande Pauillac

The 2008 vintage was already very good after decanting for a few hours. But it will age beautifully for at least one more decade.

One of the very best Bordeaux and the climax of this great wine tasting!

We were invited to a private shopping session after the wine tasting.  A great opportunity to fill our bags with our new discoveries.

As you can imagine, our husbands were happy when we came back home with a few nice bottles of wine!
