Wine bar spotlight: Benoit New York

Another busy day in Manhattan. I was rushing to meet with my good friend Patrick, who is president of a New York Wine Club. I was impatient to share my future projects at Wine Love Ladies.

Patrick offered to meet for a glass of wine at Benoit Wine Bar in Midtown West, a spot I wanted to try since ages.

Benoit

Here we go…

A Parisian Bistro in New York

Benoit is Alain Ducasse’s upscale bistro serving classic French bistro fare since 2008.

The front bar now operates as an inviting wine bar and a more casual alternative to the main restaurant. The place looks like the classic Parisian bistro, with a zinc bar and nice bistro tables.

The menu proposes a curated selection of great wines, mainly sourced from France and the USA, and a classic bistro cuisine.

You can also sip a cocktail, old-school French spirits, as well as both local and international beers.

The best wines, called Treasure by the Glass, are served using a Coravin. This innovative system allows to serve a glass of wine while preserving the rest of the bottle from oxidation for weeks or even months.

Alexis Blondel is the knowledgeable Head Sommelier at Benoit. He poured us his personal selection, Chateau de Corcelles, Les copains d’abord, Gamay le Premier Soir 2015. This is a very tasty beaujolais from France, produced in the Lyon area. I have to say that I was surprised by the lightness and fruitiness of this red wine. Alexis was right, this is a perfect wine for an afterwork drink!

Next time you visit Benoit Wine Bar, ask for Alexis and say you come from Julie @Wineloveladies. He will eventually recommend an amazing selection of wines just for you and your ladies friends!
