Tres Sabores is a small family-owned winery located on the western Rutherford bench land of California’s Napa Valley.
Tres Sabores means “three flavors” in Spanish, representing the soil type, the winemaker, and the type of grape.
Tres Sabores is an organic vineyard
They are certified organic growers of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah grapes, as well as olives, Meyer lemons and pomegranates. They specialize in hand crafting small lots of single vineyard, estate wines.
When arriving at Tres Sabores, we were greeted by Julie’s dogs. These friendly golden retrievers run around the property and follow you during the tour. Needless to say the winery is dog friendly so bring your own dog!
Aside dogs, Tres Sabores is a paradise for animals and the property has various residents, such as a cat, guinea fowl, and sheep. The latter serve as lawn mowers and their manure is used as natural slow-release fertilizer for the vineyard.
Why we loved it
The winemaker and owner is a SHE. Julie Johnson showed us her true passion for wine and invited us to join for a tour and tasting experience!
The Sabor Wine Club. Members are invited to join for a myriad of events and release parties throughout the year. Membership also includes access to early releases and four complimentary tastings per visit.
We were also thrilled by the handmade and organic approach of making her wine, far from the industrial processes of some other Californian vineyards.
Last but not least, we loved the “countryside” lunch offered by our host for the tasting, which took place in the cellar. We enjoyed the cheese plates and salads to share.
Tres Sabores is the perfect escape from the busy San Francisco. Just one hour away from the city, a perfect romantic spot to relax especially now with the blossom season!

For an afterwork drink with your girlfriends: Tres Sabores Zinfandel. A super fruity, light, and tasty red wine.
For a romantic date or dinner for two: Tres Sabores Petite Sirah. It will go perfectly with grilled meat such as lamb or pork BBQ.
