90 degrees in New York right after Memorial Day and this feeling the weekend is still on.
To keep the Hamptons weekend spirit alive, I decided to chill out at Local & Vine, a Soho wine bar “sans chichi” (casual), as the French would say.
Local & Vine specializes in local New York vineyards & breweries. They serve are mostly produced in Finger Lakes or Long Island. If the State of New York is not on your wine map, it’s high time to discover its acclaimed reds, whites, and rosés.
Local & Vine also serves lite bites. The tapas selection is perfect for those (like me) who are starving at 6 pm and want to pair their glass of wine with food!
Local & Vine never disappoints. The cozy atmosphere with the fire place and lounge area will make you feel at home. The staff is nice and pays attention to details to ensure you are enjoying your experience discovering their top wine list.
Great news for our Soho neighbors: Local & Vine just opened a little terrace with a few tables. It’s perfect for the hot New York summer, and you will feel like in a Trattoria in Rome.
My girlfriends and I decided to go all out and we ordered a bottle of Dr. Konstantin Semi-Dry Riesling along with a hearty mac & cheese and hummus platter.
Dr Konstantin Frank is this crazy Ukrainian who went to New York during the 1950′ to convince local winemakers to replace native North American grapes by the noble European varieties, supposedly unable to survive the cold Upstate New York weather. If Ukraine could produce wine below freezing temperatures, why couldn’t they?
60 years later, here we are! The Dr. Konstantin Semi-Dry Riesling is one of my favorite wines from Finger Lakes. It is perfect for an after-work celebration: it is light and low in alcohol, semi-dry with a light sweet taste balanced by a good acidity. It’s a fresh and easy to drink white for wine lovers newbies. And its price won’t ruin your you, your wallet will appreciate!
During the summer, Local & Vine proposes its Rosé Tuesdays and proposes a nice list of rosé wines from Long Island to help “rookies” try and discover this perfect summer time wine.
Last but not least, there is a little wine cellar located just next door. It proposes a small but interesting selection of wines and more. A very good spot to check when you need to bring a bottle of wine to your friends.
